Accessibility Statement
Effective October 6, 2026
Disaster and hardship can reach anyone, and so should the ability to help. People for Relief wants every visitor to be able to read about our campaigns, make a gift, see their gift history and apply to become a partner, whatever device or assistive technology they use.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines are the widely accepted standard for making web content usable by people with disabilities, including people who are blind or have low vision, people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and people with motor, cognitive or learning disabilities.
What we do
- Clear structure. Pages use real headings, lists and landmarks so screen readers can move through them in a sensible order.
- Keyboard access. Every link, button and form field can be reached and used with a keyboard, and the current focus is always visible.
- Readable text and contrast. Text and controls meet AA contrast levels in both the light and dark appearance, and pages still work when text is enlarged to 200 percent.
- Labeled forms. Donation, sign-in and application forms have visible labels, clear instructions and error messages that explain how to fix the problem.
- Text alternatives. Meaningful images have descriptions. Purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers so they do not get in the way.
- Enough time. The one-time sign-in code stays valid long enough to switch to your email and back, and you can request a new code at any time.
- Works on any screen. Pages adjust to phones, tablets and large screens without sideways scrolling.
Motion and video
Some pages show a short background video to give a sense of the places our partners serve. These videos are silent and contain no speech or important information, so they do not need captions. Everything the video might suggest is also stated in the text on the page.
We respect your device's reduced motion setting. If you have asked your device to reduce motion, background videos do not play and transitions on the site are turned off or kept to a minimum.
Light and dark appearance
A single button at the top of each page switches between a light and a dark appearance. Both are tested for contrast. Your choice is remembered on your device.
Content from others
Gifts come straight from your own bank account. The giving steps on our site, from choosing an amount to authorizing your gift, are plain text and form fields that work with keyboards and screen readers, and we test them from start to finish. We also email a confirmation with your gift code so you can read it in the format you prefer. Your bank's own site or app is run by your bank, and we cannot control how accessible it is. Partner reports and documents we share may come from partner organizations. When a document we publish is not accessible, we will provide its content in an accessible form on request.
Known limits
We test our pages with keyboards, screen readers and accessibility checking tools, and we review new pages before they go live. Even so, some barriers may slip through, especially in older campaign updates and documents supplied by partners. We are working through older content and fixing what we find.
Report a barrier
If something on our site is hard to use, please tell us. Use the contact form on our site and include:
- The page address or the name of the page.
- What you were trying to do.
- What went wrong, and the device, browser or assistive technology you were using, if you know it.
We read every report, aim to reply in writing within five business days and will tell you what we plan to change. If you need information from a page you cannot use, ask in the same message and we will send it to you in a format that works for you by email.
If the contact form itself is a barrier, let us know through any part of the site you can reach, and we will respond.
Our commitment
Accessibility is part of how we build and update the site, not a one-time project. We review this statement at least once a year and update it as we improve.
