Recurring Gifts Policy

Effective October 7, 2026

A monthly gift gives our partners steady support they can count on all year round, including between major disasters. A monthly gift comes straight from your bank account: you authorize People for Relief to debit the same amount each month, and you can stop it any time. This policy explains how that works and how you stay in control.

Giving straight from your bank account

  • Your authorization. On the give page you enter the name on the account, the routing and account numbers, and the account type, then tap Give. Tapping Give authorizes the monthly debit, and we email you a copy.
  • A check first. Before your first gift, we send your bank a zero-dollar check to confirm the account. Your first gift comes out a few business days later.
  • Each month. Your gift comes out on about the same day each month, for the amount you chose. It shows on your statement under People for Relief's name with your gift code.
  • Stopping it. Sign in to your account and choose Stop this gift, or write to us through the contact page. Stop at least 3 business days before the next debit. You can also ask your bank to stop it.
  • If a debit is returned. If your bank returns a debit, for example because the account is closed, we stop future debits and let you know. We don't retry a returned debit and never collect a missed month after the fact.
  • Your account details. We store your account number encrypted, use it only for the gifts you authorized and never show it in full again.

Receipts

We email a receipt each time one of your monthly transfers arrives. Every receipt shows the date the transfer arrived, the amount and our tax ID. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and no goods or services are provided in exchange unless a receipt says otherwise. Your account page also shows your full gift history and a year-end summary of everything you gave in the calendar year.

Bank transfers can take a few business days to arrive, depending on your bank and the type of transfer. Your receipt is dated by when the transfer reaches People for Relief.

Where your monthly gift goes

You can direct a monthly gift to a specific campaign or to general relief support. If the campaign you chose closes or is fully supported, your future monthly transfers go to general relief support, where help is needed most. We note this change on your account page so you can choose a different campaign if you prefer.

Changing your monthly gift

  • Change the amount, campaign or account. Stop your current monthly gift from your account page, then start a new one on the give page with the details you want.

Stopping a monthly gift

Sign in to your account and choose Stop this gift, at least 3 business days before the next debit. There is no fee from People for Relief, no minimum number of months and no question to answer. You can also write to us through the contact page, or ask your bank to stop the debit.

Stopping a monthly gift stops future debits only. Every gift that already came out is final.

Bank fees

People for Relief does not charge any fee for a monthly gift.

Protecting your gift

People for Relief never emails bank details or asks you to send a gift to an account number. If you receive a message like that, do not send anything, and tell us through the site.

Changes to this policy

If we change how monthly gifts work in a way that affects your gift, we will post the change on this page and note it on your account page before your next transfer is due.
